Pewaukee is a city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. The population was 11,783 at the 2000 census. Pewaukee when translated means “Lake of Shells”. Today Pewaukee is known as a fisherman’s paradise providing the best Muskie fishing in southeastern Wisconsin. Dog Licenses: In the state of Wisconsin, all dogs over 5 months of age are required to be licensed. Dog licenses are issued at Pewaukee Village Hall and are valid through December 31st of the year issued. Proof of rabies vaccination must be provided when a license is applied for. Downtown/Lakefront Park Parking: Free public parking is available along West Wisconsin Avenue. Please pay close attention to the posted signs. Some areas are designated as 'drop-off' zones. Free parking is also available in the Village lot located at the intersection of West Wisconsin Avenue and Capitol Drive, near the railroad tracks. Recycling Center: The Village's Recycling Center is located at 552 Hickory Street. The Center is open from 4pm-7pm on Wednesdays (mid-March - late-October) and from 9am-3pm on Saturdays (March-December). A variety of items are accepted at the Recycling Center, including bottles, cans, newspaper, used motor oil, cardboard and yard waste. Hazardous Waste (antifreeze, pesticides, chemicals, paints and cleaning products) is not accepted at the Village's Recycling Center.
